WHITETAIL DEER

White tail deer are commonly found in most of West Virginia. They are commonly hunted by humans, mountain lions, and coyote. This specific picture (taken in my front yard) is of a young buck. (6 point) This picture was taken a couple months ago so the deer's velvet is just coming in. Velvet is a leathery coat that covers the animal's antlers during a specific time of the year.
If I hike up on the hill in my backyard there are deer everywhere. If humans don't begin to conserve on a massive scale this species as well as many others will be gone.
